We, myself, wife and two kids, took a fall trip to Chianti that I would like to share here.
Day 1: Arrived at Pisa airport and drove to the airbnb. The accommodation was in a quaint location on SP16 Chianti Valdarno between Greve in Chianti and Dudda. We arrived at around 4pm and were super hungry. We also wanted to stock up on groceries. Our host told us Casa al Chinati (http://www.casaalchianti.it) has both a ristorante and grocery store. We arrived at Casa al Chianti around 5pm. A lady peeked out of the window and told us that they were not serving dinner at that time. We did eat at the place later in the trip, and highly recommend it. We drove onwards to Pizzeria L'Ponte in Ponte Agli Stolli. Unfortunately, they were also not serving anything until 7pm. We had about two hours to kill, so we drove to a small hamlet of Lucolena in Chianti. To our positive surprise, we ended in that town as it was celebrating its Chestnut Festival. We were able to get some snacks and coffee to tame the hunger and tiredness, and also load up on grocery in Lucolena while enjoying the festival. One of the highlights of the festival was the dance by the locals. We stayed there until 7pm after which we drove to Pizzeria L'Ponte for dinner. The pizzeria was packed on the Sunday evening, mostly with senior citizens. The food was great, and we came there again during the trip.
Day 2: We drove to nearby Montefioralle. It was a beautiful small hamlet. We stepped in Cafe Montefioralle, and loved the cozy environment. The room at the back had a great view from the window and toys for the children. We spent a couple of hours there. Then we walked down the town to take a circular hike to La Macinda De San Cresci. The hike took us through wineyards and olive groves. It was olive harvest season, so we experienced farmers picking the fruit. We stopped by under a tree and had a little picnic. Later we went to the church, which was closed. A sign read that the keys are in the house next door. We rang the doorbell, and a lady gave us the keys to the small church that is now used for artistic exhibitions.
After completing our loop, we drove to Panzano. The children were quite tired, so we kept it low key and took a stroll around the town. Our next stop was Castellina in Chianti. By this time it was getting dark. We strolled through the town. and got more groceries at the coop. We loaded up on the deli in the coop to make dinner at home.
The drive home was quite tiring as the roads are very curvy. It took us an hour to reach our airbnb. We used the fresh produce from the coop to make a dinner of antipasti and pasta, which we loved it.
