Here is a nice piece of journalism, published on Zeit Online: the author, David Hugendick, is obviously in love with the city, a melancholic love... My love for my birth and growing up city is somewhat more exuberant but I enjoyed very much reading the article.
P.S.: At least I can bring some clarity to the question of how many lanes Bd. Magheru has. Bd. Nicolae Balcescu and its continuation, Bd. Magheru, have both seven lanes, the middle lane used in places to turn right or left as the case may be. Bd. Nicolae Balcescu has an additional lane, separated from the heavy traffic by a wide sidewalk shaded by mature trees and endowed with benches which allow moments of rest to the weary pedestrians. This eighth lane is wide enough for both local car traffic and, in places, for diagonal parking.
