Hello, everyone! I'm happy to be a part of the Slow Europe forum!
I am an author from Kentucky who started emailing with an Italian pen pal in 2009. The goal was for me to improve my Italian and for him to improve his English... but we ended up falling in love in the process! In 2016 I started traveling to Italy for three months at a time on the tourist visa, seeing all of the sites and loving it (and my pen pal) more every day. In 2020 I arrived right as the lockdown in Italy was starting for COVID-19 and I got stuck... but that was okay, because we were engaged to be married by then! We got married in Sicily in July and we now live near Milan with our two cats (one of which you can see in my avatar).
So I get to explore Italy all the time now! (Well, when it's not locked down...)
I work as a novelist, travel book author, travel blogger, and freelance writer. My first travel book, How to Be an American in Italy, actually reached #1 on the bestseller list (which I like to mention as often as possible, haha). I also run a blog to give advice to other Americans living in Italy like me.
