Article - Yellow car in Cotswold Chocolate Box village!

I found this incident funny and it has been reported a few places in the UK.

The most photographed place in the Cotswolds is the Arlington Row, historic weaver cottages beside the river in Bibury. We have been there many time because one of our favorite walks starts there and each time I am stunned by their beauty. I am also stunned by the bus loads of people that spend 30 minutes here on their tour of the Cotswolds. Luckily we leave them all behind within 5 minutes of walking. But someone has complained that a bright yellow car parked near the Arlington Row is ruining their photos!

Telegraph - Why is a yellow car making tourists see red?by Jemima Lewis, Jan 30
Surely an Englishman is entitled to park whatever conveyance he likes outside his own home

From the article: "Is there any other country on earth where the expectations of tourists are so far removed from the reality? ... There is only one place in Britain that indisputably does what it says on the (biscuit) tin: the Cotswolds. Here, the cottages really are thatched. The streets are crooked, the stone is golden, the hills roll. Roses grow around arched wooden doorways so dinky one wouldn’t be surprised to see Mrs Tiggywinkle come scampering out."

This article sums up how I feel. Whenever we fly back into the UK and are driving on the M4 out to the Cotswolds, I am struck by how bleak things look along the motorway. But once we get into the countryside, the bleakness vanishes.

But about the yellow car - who cares? This is not Disneyland - people live and work here! And we use cars.

A few years ago they took up the lavender in the fields right in front of the Abbaye de Senanque near Gordes, Provence. (Lavender gets too woody after some number of years... 8 to 10, I think... and has to be replaced.) They let the fields sit in dirt for a while and then planted some type of grass for a season, before finally planting new (very small) lavender plants.

I remember the comments on some travel message boards (not this one)... tourists very upset that the lavender had been pulled up and they couldn't get the perfect lavender photo in front of the abbey that they had dreamed of taking for years. Somehow they didn't seem to realize this was a "crop"
