English novelist E. F. (Edward Frederic) Benson (24 July 1867 – 29 February 1940) wrote many books and plays but is best known for the Mapp and Lucia series.

- Mapp and Lucia (1931) - Lucia Lucas rents a summer place - the home of Elizabeth Mapp - in the English village of Tilling. Between Miss Mapp's penchant for spying on the neighbors and Lucia's fussy sidekick, Georgie, the stage is set for a battle of wits.

The Mapp and Lucia books are set in "Tilling", based on Rye, East Sussex where Benson lived for many years (he was even the mayor at one time). The main house Mallard's is based on his home Lamb House. The author Henry James lived in this house before Benson.
BBC recently made a 3 part series called Mapp and Lucia, starring Miranda Richardson and Anna Chancellor. This is based on the 4th book in the series - Mapp and Lucia - when Lucia rents Mapp's house for the summer.
