Can I Buy Bus Tickets for Round Trip at the Originating Point?

I plan to take Bus #112 from Montepulciano and return back the same day.

Will I be able to buy my return ticket in Montepulciano itself? This will allow me to avoid walks/rides to Piazza Gramsci or Siena F.S. I could buy it on the bus but I want to be sure that everything is under control ahead of time. In other words, I do NOT want to be stuck in Siena for the night.

If I buy the return ticket in Montepulciano, is there a chance that I won't have a seat in the return bus?

I'm not sure, but if you want a return, ask for 'andata e ritorno'. There will be no saving, but peace of mind can be useful.

The bus journey isn't onerous (we used it to move base from Montepulciano to Siena) and I recall it being busy enough, but only properly filled up once it picked people up en-route. As you're getting on at the 1st stop in both directions then it should be fine.

I would absolutely buy a round trip bus ticket at your point of origination. There is a bus station in Montepulciano, and I don't foresee a problem fulfilling your needs. There is no good reason to hunt around for your return bus ticket when in Siena, nor to pay a supplement to purchase the ticket on board the return bus. Your insight in this regard is precisely correct.
