Delayed Baggage AMS > UK (KLM)

Our hold baggage missed a connecting flight AMS > BHX yesterday afternoon (1 July), and the carrier (KLM) since tells us that the baggage was sent on a later flight to BHX that evening.

Over 24 hours have since lapsed since our return to the UK, but there's still no sign of the baggage, which was due for delivery to our home address.

I have been unable to establish phone contact with either the BHX agent this afternoon, or with KLM/AF baggage queries line ('we're very busy right now'). An E-mail has been sent to each, but to no avail.

Any ideas how best to escalate this with KLM ? TIA

Time solves everything :)

Your bags decided to do a little slow traveling on the way home.

Frustrating, but you have them now. Another time you could try Facebook or Twitter. I have read about people talking to airlines that way.

Our bags were once lost on the way to Rome. Last minute cancellation, put us on a plane to Detroit then on to Rome. We were originally scheduled to go through Atlanta. We were standing at the Houston baggage desk, when the agent called down to have our bags re-tagged. Got to Rome, no bags. Talked to people at lost luggage, and they swore they would continue looking for them. We went on to Tuscany, and then spent hours with Delta, and a great deal of money on phone calls, trying to locate our bags. Nico, our host at Sant'Antonio, took over, as he could speak with the agents in Rome. He also spent hours.

After two days, we finally decided to drive back to the Rome airport, and see what we could do. They claimed they had never received them. By the way, I always place a piece of paper with the location of where we will be staying inside each suitcase. I finally asked if we could look in their lost and found. You guessed it, there they were, right in plain sight. Sometimes, you just have to take care of things yourself. They simply couldn't be bothered.

There's nothing quite like that sinking feeling in your stomach when you realize the bags have stopped coming out and yours isn't there. I've had it happen a couple of times, but both times, the airlines have delivered my bag to where I'm staying by the next day. I hope I'm always so lucky!

The initial flight from Italy > AMS was delayed, so I wasn't surprised when the baggage didn't arrive with us in the UK - we had to rush in AMS to beat the 'Gate Closing' deadline for the 2nd flight.

Now the episode is resolved, it wasn't a major problem.

We had the same issue last month on a flight from Florence-Frankfurt-San Francisco. Turns out -- although our flight was delayed well over an hour -- that the bags never left Florence. Why? Who knows! We got the bags three days later. Fortunately it was on our return flight and not our flight to Europe. They must have sensed my reluctance to return to "real life."
