ETIAS requirements

It looks like ETIAS application needs to be filled out/purchased for our upcoming trip. We are planning to go to Portugal, but like all of our travel plans things can change, for instance as of today our daughter might be able to vacation with us and our destination may change? I started to fill out the form on the ETIAS website and it asks for destination, I could click Portugal, but what if our destination changes? It doesn't offer a "Schengen" option and I read to be accurate when filling out the form. Once approved it appears to be valid for 3 years, do I just pick a country to get the approval and then it's valid for all Schengen destinations? Thanks for any advice!

When is your trip? Etias was due to start this year but has been delayed. Before it comes in, the EES, that is Entry Exit scheme is to be implemented and that has also been delayed. So at this stage there is no time for these to come into effect. Mid 2025 has been suggested, but unless things have changed in the last few days, there is no date. One site says Etias will come in six months after EES.

We had dinner with friends this weekend and their cruise line has sent multiple emails advising it's mandatory for their June trip. I have seen January, May etc in articles. I will process a request today and just put Portugal in and see how the ETIAS systems walks me through. I'll let you know......

I’m not sure who you are processing your request through, but ETIAS is not required yet. Are you looking at some third party scam website?

They haven’t even started EES yet. I’m very curious why a cruise line is asking for something that has not been implemented yet.

I’ll check when I get home, it was either ITIAS.com or .org? Not the link you attached? I haven’t tried to process anything yet, thank you for this!

Ok I found the site I briefly looked at, ETIAS.com. I saw an application form and now that I really looked at it...it was an application to get updates on launch date and requirements. I'm sorry for the confusion.

Our friends just said they meant ETA, since they are jumping on the cruise in the UK. I saw Paulines post about ETA, all of the changes can keep you on your toes!

Agree and thank you for info! Learn something new everyday, I didn't realize europa.eu was the "official" address. I went to the US State Dept page and they don't mention ETIAS, but they have a link to the official website you shared.

Hi there!

It sounds like you're getting ready for a fantastic trip to Europe! Don't worry about the ETIAS application asking for a specific destination; I can help clear things up.

Here's what you need to know:
Only One ETIAS Needed: You only need to apply for one ETIAS, and it will be valid for all ETIAS member countries. You don't need a separate one for each country you plan to visit.
Schengen Area Coverage: The ETIAS covers the Schengen area, so once you have it, you're good to go to any of the participating countries.
Validity: An ETIAS is valid for three years or until your passport expires, whichever comes first. During this time, you can enter the ETIAS countries as often as you like for short stays (up to 90 days in any 180-day period).
Destination on the Form: Just pick one country on the ETIAS form to get the approval. Once approved, it's valid for all Schengen destinations.
So, to answer your question, yes, just pick a country (like Portugal) to get the approval, and then it's valid for all Schengen destinations. This makes it super flexible if your plans change!

Have a fantastic trip with your family!
