Flying London Gatwick to Pisa

Hello! Hoping to solve a mystery! I'm surprised and puzzled to discover that British Airways has suspended it's London Gatwick to Pisa route. I've used it hundreds of times over the past 20 years to fly from my Surrey UK home to my holiday home near Pisa. Heathrow is currently the only option on offer but that's so difficult for me to reach. I've contacted BA and was told the suspension is for "operational reasons". I was just wondering if any other Gatwick-Pisa travellers have any more information? It's looking like I will have to move over to easyJet ☹️......

I've found the Routes Online announcement of the changes including this. One can just speculate about the reasons: maybe that it's convenient for crew and scheduling to use just one London airport, and that route serves many people making intercontinental connections.

Thank you so much Andrew. I guess the reason for suspension will remain a mystery but it's so puzzling to me that such a busy route with flights that were always jam-packed has been cut!

Admittedly, it was only a summer schedule. The Heathrow route has always run all year round.

We were pretty upset when last fall we discovered that all flights to Pisa are via LHR. BA is the only airline with non stops to LGW with connection to Pisa from Orlando. Needless to say BA is out for us , so Lufthansa is our only other choice but sadly goes to FLR. Those flights to Pisa consistently were full and sometimes overbooked!

Hi vicogirl51. Yes, it's so puzzling that what always appeared to me such a busy schedule has been axed by BA. I guess knowing the reason why will make no difference to us as we have no choice but to find alternative options. Maybe it's just an experiment and the route will be reinstated one day :joyful:
