Hampton Court and Kew Gardens accommodations

I am planning out a trip this April or May to Italy and some flight options include transfers through London. I am thinking to do a 4 day stopover and I would like to visit Hampton Court and Kew Gardens. Can anyone recommend a nice area to stay nearby that is either on a transit path to these sites, or a reasonable taxi ride away? We will likely get a car service to and from the airport. . We have been to London several times and have seen the main sights. The other experience we would like to try is a scenic pulllman steam train dining trip, if the schedule permits.

We had a a lovely day at Kew Gardens April of 2022. It is easily reached by the tube. We have stayed at both the Strand Palace near Covent Gardens and the Pelham Hotel in South Kensington. The Pelham is directly across the street from the South Kensington station. There are several restaurants in the neighborhood including a wonderful breakfast spot, Muriel's Kitchen. Taking the District Line will deliver you directly to Kew in about 20 minutes. From the station, it's a short walk down a tree lined street to the gardens. From the Strand start at Charing Cross, take the Bakerloo line to So. Ken. and transfer to the District line.

The Orange Tree Pub in Richmond has nice rooms, it’s across the street from Richmond station, one stop from Kew or you can even walk to Kew.

It’s not far from Hampton court either, 40 minutes by bus. If you have already been to London a few times, Richmond is a wonderful place to stay. Lots of nice restaurants and pubs and it’s beautiful along the river. There is District line and Overland train service from Richmond Station.

Hi,
It would be great to stay riverside in either location I think.
The Orange Tree is a good suggestion and there are a host of hotels on Richmond Hill with fabulous views but I haven’t stayed in any of them recently enough to recommend their quality.
Likewise with The Mitre at Hampton Court.
There are several steam train companies you could investigate ;

Steam Dreams is a lesser known one but I’ve used it successfully several times.
It’s possible to travel between Richmond and Hampton Court by boat by the way. It’s a great trip on a sunny day if you aren’t in too much of a hurry !
