Holiday Season Spain Recommendations Please

Howard

Hi. I'm just beginning to plan a holiday season trip to Spain for the end of this year. We, my wife and I, like to travel slowly. We'd like to rent a place, not in a big city but but some with city access (i.e. an easy train ride away), that would have interesting Christmas celebrations, cultural life, music, and art. A favorite trip some years ago was to Umbria in Italy. We stayed in a cottage in the countryside and walked and drove to local hill towns, villages and cities. Something like that would be ideal. I would welcome any suggestions, even far-fetched ones. Please start with recommended areas, towns, small cities etc. Thank you. -Howard

I have lived close to the town of Ronda for many years and this would be a good starting place for your research. It ticks many of the boxes that you mention. On a train line, local hill towns and fantastic scenery but near enough to places like Málaga, Seville and Cádiz for longer day trips. I have a website about Ronda here: https://www.rondatoday.com/ronda-the-city-of-dreams-in-andalucia/

Nearby is the Sierra de Grazalema where the white villages route may be of interest: https://grazalemaguide.com/blog/the-white-villages-of-the-sierra-de-grazalema/

I look forward to seeing other suggestions in this topic.

Hi, Clive. Great stuff to see. Thanks for this. My wife and I will be in Malaga and souther Spain for a few weeks starting Friday and really haven't planned much. Any other links, advice or services would be more than welcome. :)

Hi, well if you are in Malaga and like walking and countryside, the Caminito del Rey is well worth a trip. There are plenty of guided tours going there. I have a website about it. For history check out the "about" page but heres the guided tours: https://www.caminodelrey.es/get-your-guide-for-the-caminito-del-rey/

For Ronda, apart from the info on the site, there is this audio guide: https://www.rondatoday.com/the-voicemap-gps-audio-guide-for-ronda/

I also have a bit of information about Cádiz if you get over that way: https://visitingcadiz.com/

All my sites link to each other so you can navigate between them easily enough.

Have a great trip! Let me know if you get to Grazalema and we'll grab a beer :)

Super! I just bought the printable guide of Ronda, that will be a good start. For sure we will rent a car and make it up over there and would be awesome to meet up. And Caminto del Rey looks great, right up our alley, we'll likely book this for the following weekend. Perfect start.
