Hi everyone,

Happy to have found this travel forum. After reading through some discussions, it’s clear that the people here truly love travel and are a cool, high-quality bunch.

I’d love to be part of this community!

I can offer travel advice for Venice, all of Italy & Switzerland - places I know like the back of my hand. I love exploring and always seek out unusual spots. Some call them "hidden gems," but I find that term overused.

That said, my reason for being here goes beyond just my passion for travel and sharing advice.

I’ve poured an enormous amount of time into crafting what I hope is the most comprehensive travel guide for Venice. It’s not just about the 70+ top spots, unique activities and experiences plus insider tips. It’s also an innovative take on a mobile city guide. Instead of a long-winded, subjective blog, it’s more like a Venice cheat sheet: super short descriptions with only the most interesting bits, plus plenty of links to useful resources. This way you can quickly decide if a place is worth visiting given your specific interests.

I invite you to fall in love with Venice through my mobile travel guide that puts the entire city at your fingertips: https://www.cityscrolls.com/venice/
This is the only time you'll see a link to the guide: here and in my profile. Those are the forum rules.

Now let's start the adventure!

Here's a Venice question for you: We will be heading back to Venice for two weeks this fall. In the past, we have purchased 5 day and 7 day vaporetto passes at the machines. Since it looks like we will likely continue to visit our favorite city, the Venezia Unica card with the transportation option seems right for us. If I understand correctly, paying 100 euro up front will allow us to purchase individual vaporetto tickets for 1.50. However, when I go to the Venezia Unica site and create a card, the only options for transportation are the same passes we can purchase without the card. Please correct me if I'm wrong and point me in the right direction if you can. Many thanks.

Love the question: this 5-year Venezia Unica card often causes confusion because it shares the same name as the comprehensive tourist pass you can order online.

I believe you found the information about it here.

Basically, this card is for transportation only, cannot be ordered online, and is available exclusively in person at Venezia Unica agencies in, and I quote from source: Piazzale Roma, Tronchetto, Lido Santa Maria Elisabetta, Via Lazzari 32 - Mestre, Via G. Matteotti - Dolo, P.le Europa 2C - Sottomarina, as well as ticket offices at Punta Sabbioni, Rialto (Route 1 waterbus stop), and Burano.

Hope this helps, and I wish you a fantastic two weeks in Venice!

@JMichael - I've had a Venezia Unica card for frequent users for almost 10 years. You also get discounts on the Alilaguna if you take that to/from the airport. I applied and renewed mine at Piazzale Roma. You take a ticket (number) when entering the office in Piazzale Roma for the service you want. Have your passport with you. A guide including description of the form you will need to fill out can be found on Europe for Visitors. I've found it well worth it as a frequent visitor. If you are there for more than 2 weeks, or plan on taking the vaporetti a lot, consider a monthly pass that can be added to the card vs. individual tickets (tip from a Venetian friend when we were cat sitting for her one August).

Wonderful! Thank you for your reply Adrian. @GailS, thank you for the specific details, link and recommendation. As many times as we've been to Venice, I've never had the need to go to Piazzale Roma, so this will be a new experience. We will be arriving by train and won't have far to walk.
