Italy moves to ban key boxes

I have used coded key boxes to access rental apartments and always wondered how the owner knew (or cared) that I was the actual person staying that booked the accommodation. With the upcoming Jubilee they are taking a step, albeit small, to control the problem with unscrupulous rentals proliferating across Italy and other European countries.

Italy bans key boxes on holiday rental accommodation.

Thanks for the interesting article. We used self check-in in October for an apartment in Venice. It was convenient since we had a late arrival. However, it would have been nice to have a representative from the agency greet us, show us around the apartment, and answer any questions. That's the way it used to be. Now I suppose many will go back to a check-in time window with extra fees for after hours.
