This article from ANSA shows how the south is becoming the place to visit. In particular Matera and Naples.

We left Matera this morning after a 2 night stay. There were lots of tourists - Italian and stranieri - even though high season has not arrived. Can’t imagine what it’s like with more crowds plus the heat of summer.

Strong recommendation for a couple of spots in Matera: a wine bar, enoteca dai tosi, and a restaurant, La Gatta Buia. The latter probably our best meal so far this trip (first 2 nights in Rome and then 4 in Sorrento).
