Northern Italy in winter

stav

10+ Posts
Hello,

Any recommendations for a picturesque town or village in the Bolzano area for a few days visit in winter (not during Christmas) ?
Would just like to enjoy beautiful winter scenery and atmosphere.
The visit is in February, not during the Christmas season, so looking for a place which is interesting enough on it's own without Christmas festivities.

Thanks

Thank you Giulia.
How is Merano in winter ? Does it get very quiet or are most restaurants and places open year round ?

Merano stays lively (or as lively as it gets) throughout the year due to the Thermae and lively cultural life. It's warm and dry compared to other places in the area (do not expect the Riviera ;) ). Of course March to October and Chrismas have many more activities, but, apart from Bozen itself I can't think of a better place in Sud Tirol.
So, yes, it's quieter, but not dead since it's big enough not to live on tourism alone.
