Playa de Osmo Apartments - Porto-Corme, Galicia

The apartments are about an easy hour's drive from the A Coruna airport. It is preferable to stop in Carballo for groceries at one of the large supermarkets. Fresh bread and milk is readily available in Porto-Corme but selection of other goods is limited. There is a bakery/pastry shop in town. Also a baker's truck comes to the front door each morning at around 11am. There are two small family-run grocery stores that stock basic items. There is a weekly street market.

We made reservations directly with the hotel by email. All inquiries were answered promptly and professionally. There may be a surcharge for an apartment directly facing the ria but this is negotiable based on time of year and/or occupancy. We believe the extra cost is worth it. I note that a restaurant opened since our visit and this may prove bothersome to renters above it. It is something to ask about re: hours and possible noise. Also if one arrives outside normal work hours (including siesta), one needs to phone the number on the door for entrance. Front desk personnel were friendly and helpful in providing directions and suggestions regarding sights and restaurants. English was spoken.

We were very pleased with the location of the apartment. It is on the ria, between two beaches and only a short walk to the town. It is an ideal place from which to explore the other towns of the Costa do Morte, such as Finisterre, Muxia, Laxe, Camarinas. Porto-Corme is the centre of percebes (barnacle) harvesting and one can watch members of this dangerous profession in action from headlands around the area.

The apartment was furnished "Ikea style" and in good condition. One exited onto the balcony through either the bedroom or the sitting room. The combination kitchen/dining/sitting area was large and well-equipped. The bathroom was spacious, had modern fixtures and plentiful hot water. Apartments ending in 06 and 07 face the ria. Kitchen amenities were adequate. Short-comings were the toaster only accepted "Bimbo style" bread, not larger country loaves and there was no juicer.

Included in the price were secure underground parking, Wi-Fi, television and daily cleaning except for the kitchen area.

The area is great for exploring. There are numerous trails, coves and sandy beaches. We visited in April and some brave individuals were in the water. Remains of prehistoric villages (castros) and dolmens abound as do later eighteenth century fulling mill sites. Significant pilgrimage sites are also in the area.

We highly recommend this little-visited part of Spain and also the Playa de Osmo Apartments.
