London Short Trip to London to see Monet...

It may be of interest our latest foray in to the centre of London....
The main purpose was to visit the National Gallery in Trafalgar Square. Whilst it really is a national treasure with one of the finest art collections in the world, it does hold special exhibitions of renown artists sourced from other museums and collections. The latest being Claude Monet, one of the founders of the impressionist movement of the latter part of the 19th.c., and early 20th.c. The exhibition took in some 76 original paintings that spanned Monet's busy life in many parts of France, Venice, and London . To bring together such a stunning collection from around the world is a logistical masterpiece in itself. This is not to be missed. Also, please remember that the major part of the National Gallery is free entry, but there is a charge for special exhibitions.
The problem for most people getting into central London is time and expense. We live in the wilds of Essex for example, and there are a number of ways to get there; the most straightforward is probably the mainline train followed by London Underground. For two retried people, this costs a king's ransom.
Most people avoid driving in to London, albeit much cheaper, mainly because of traffic and parking. First remember you are retired and can drive in at weekends with far less traffic, and no congestion charges.
Secondly, the extortionate parking charges can be overcome by using Just Park ( type in to Google). This time we parked in a secure underground car park approx. 10 minutes walk away from the venue for £7.50. It is an internet company, and the spaces available vary from private driveways, formal car parks, hotel car parks, to just about anyone who has car parking spaces going spare. You simply log in, type in where you wish to go, and up comes a selection of car parking spaces to choose from; the closer to the venue, the more expensive. We have used this method quite a few times now and find that it makes a trip for two in the Capital quite inexpensive now.
