Spain and ????? in 20 Days

Hi everyone,

We are planning a 19 night trip to Europe next summer and we will be spending the first 12 nights in Andalucia, Spain, spending time in Seville, Granada and Cordoba, and taking day trips as well.

For the next 7 nights, we have searched along the whole coast, from Malaga to Valencia, and we have not found that small, quaint, medieval, not so touristy, seaside town, with a beautiful beach and warmer waters (not Cadiz/Algarve temperature); a place that has some interesting things to see and one where we can take a day trip or two for those few days we do not want to spend the entire day at the beach. There are many in Italy, for example, but it just seems that the Spanish coast is just way too overdeveloped. We had initially thought about driving from Seville to Valencia for 2 nights then flying to Majorca for 5 nights, but even Majorca seems too touristy.

We would fly from Seville to another destinations (we will not consider Sicily because 7 nights isn't nearly enough). We have thought about Corfu, Sardinia or Corsica and even Malta, but we would really appreciate any advice you can offer. If we have missed something in Spain, please let us know.

Thank you very much.

We found the Cabo de Gata area a pleasant place to explore. We based ourselves in Agua Amarga, near Carboneras. It is not a medieval town but was small and quiet when we visited. Note it was in Spring ,after Easter, so a summer experience may be different. The Park itself offers varied landscapes, walking trails, unique geology (as explained in a fine small museum) and beach areas. Nearby,Day trips could include a visit to the provincial capital Almeria City, Sobras with it's caves, Nijar, noted for its pottery making, Tabernas, the site of Eastwood's westerns, now a theme park. Farther afield, Elche with its Palm gardens, Velez-Blanco with its Cuevas de los Leteros cave drawings (viewing by escorted visits only).
Wishing you pleasant travels.

Why not the Costa Brava? The northern part is not overdeveloped, but has enough to keep tourists amused, and Catalan culture is so different from Andalucia that it's like being in a different country. Begur and Pals are nice medieval towns with good lodging and dining options, also close to beaches. From there you can visit Girona and Figueres (and Barcelona of course -- there's a suburban train route that will take you there).

Madrid? or Barcelona? I am sure there are 7 days of things worth doing in each.
Sitges is a great beach town just a 40 minute train ride (south) from Barcelona. We spend 3 nights there in September 2018.

It depends on the dates of your trip Mallorca is not so overcrowded with tourists.

Specifically, the northern area of Alcudia and Pollensa, seems perfect to me.

You can also try Cala D'or or Cala Millor, but as a personal taste, I prefer the other two.

If you have any doubt, quote me.

Cheers!

We did a great 20-day trip to Spain in 2015 (one of our best trips ever). Started in Barcelona. Flew to Granada, drove to Sevilla (vis Ronda and White Towns, which in retrospect we could have skipped). Train to Cordoba. Train to Toledo (our consensus favorite town). Ended in Madrid (perfect trip). Below is link to report (with photos). Photo below is from The Alcazar in Sevilla. Have fun!
