Well if not Naples, what about Sardinia?

Haven't resolved that Naples is a good stop so now I am wondering if it may be a good idea to go to Sardinia? We've been to Sicily and loved it. Other parts of Italy, but not yet Sardinia, and so any suggestions about that?

We will be in Alghero from April 27-May7. Using it as a base of operations to explore the Northern half of Sardinia. The attraction for us is natural landscape and some unique culture. You will likely have to make your plans before I am able to report back anything meaningful. But I am hoping others reply favorably about Sardinia with suggestions of what to see, do and where to eat! We already have an itinerary planned but are flexible enough to change course based upon recommendations.

Thanks much. Doug's report is very helpful. We finally firmed up plans, we will essentially have May 1st-6th -- though if we spend all our time on Sardinia, we won't see anything of Rome - but we have been to Rome and never Sardinia. :)

Sardinia is amazing....we spent two weeks there a few years ago and loved it. Amazing beaches, interesting cities, rugged hinterland and excellent food.. I can't recommend it highly enough....
