Change in Ticket Price

We have a trip to France planned, starting September 2, 2017. I always try and book our flights early, as I want to make sure we get good seats. I booked Comfort for the entire trip. I made our reservations around the middle of November. They were sky high, but I make sure I continue to check for price changes, as time goes by. Yes, I know there is a charge for that, which on Delta if $300, International. I called yesterday, and could not believe that our tickets, had gone down $962 per person. The Delta Agent worked for a long time, and had to check with Air France, because they were the over water planes.

Now, the reason, I'm writing this is to tell you what he said. They changed the Flight number code from Air France to Delta, and also said the fares had gone down as well. This is something I will check the next time I purchase tickets, as I had no idea what a difference a code from one airline to another could make. Exact same plane and seats. I asked him if the code made that much difference and he said, "Yes." Who knew??

The Delta Agent put me on hold for some time, stating that he had to talk to an Air France agent to check the fares. He came back and told me the good news, and said because they changed the Air France flight number to a Delta flight number, it changed the fare. He made sure I understood that nothing else changed. They refunded the money back to our credit card immediately. I then when on line to make sure, nothing had changed, and he was correct. It was that one flight that made everything change. Not only was I shocked, but so was he.
