This new release of the XenForo forums software has some great new features for the Media section (and some annoying changes). I am posting here to get everyone's attention and will move the thread eventually to the How To forum.
Photo Albums are very different in this new release.
The main page of photo thumbnails looks much better.
When you are viewing a category or an album, you can scroll between photos easily.
An album can be assigned to a category. For example, we can group photo albums by country. Previously I set up categories for each country, and for Italy I made categories for each region, and encouraged people to post photos there. But most people preferred to create an album and upload their photos to it. The only way to see these albums was to browse through all the personal albums. Now I have set up these categories for each country - Photo Albums (shows all the personal albums for this country), Travel Photos (put general photos here), Food & Drink (put general Food & Drink photos here). I went through our personal albums and assigned each one to a category. This makes it much easier to browse through albums.
Now the bad news:
You cannot set the album cover. Instead a grid of 4 photos is generated. Why?
> Solution - none.
If album is in a category, you cannot set privacy to let someone else add photos. Again, why?
> Solution - I have set the software to force you to add your album to a category, so we will not be able to have group albums. If you come up with an idea for a group album, I can set up a category and we can all add to the category.
Previously I changed the tab at the top of the page from Media to Photos. This time I am going to leave it as Media (and also leave Resources which previously was Travel Notes). It is easier to go with their names for things - otherwise I have to change them in a lot of places.
If you have any problems viewing photos, creating albums or uploading photos, please contact me pauline at sloweurope dot com. I had some problems with permissions on this new release and I think I have it sorted, but I might have missed something.
I will update our How To thread for posting photos to include this new information.
