Hi, my old posts show a more mobile more adventurous me. Now I am looking for cruises I have a few questions:

1. We would prefer groups that are mostly italian or spanish speaking tourists, NOT the guide
2. any idea of the most economical would be welcome.
3. Are the stops long enough to see something without a long sortie with the guide?
4. Are there any "tours" with no guide,? I guess this is more a "schedule"

Have a look at river cruises - most stop for several hours in the different places. Usually the boat moors up close to the city/town centre so you can walk from the boat. I've always gone prepared with a map and go off exploring by myself rather than tagging round with the guide. These tend to be more expensive than ocean cruises.

If on an ocean going cruise, a lot depends on whether you can dock and walk ashore or if you have to be tendered ashore. This is more restrictive. You will have plenty of time to explore the different ports of call but may need to organise a taxi or hire car if you want to explore by yourself. (Plan well in advance if doing this as chances are many other people on the ship will also be planning on doing that.) The cruise ship will offer a range of different excursions at each port but these can be quite expensive. Prices vary tremendously depending on the cabin, ship and the company. You can find cruises for several hundred pounds, or you could be paying several thousand.
