I’ve got our trip booked and am getting excited about it. We leave at the end of May and drive for two days from Dorset to Baden-Baden (overnight in Arras). We spend a week in a small town a ten-minute drive from Baden-Baden. The plan is to do easy hikes in the area.
The Baden-Baden tourist site has an excellent section on hiking and lets you download a GPX file which I input into my hiking app, Outdoor Active. There are hikes around the town, in vineyards, in woods and in farming valleys.

Hoping for better weather this time. Our first visit there was last October and it rained most of the time.
Then we drive another 3-4 hours south into Switzerland, to Lenk in the Berner Oberland. We go here regularly. We have two weeks booked in the apartment we’ve rented the last few years. No planning for hiking needed because I know what we will do.
For our last week we probably would have stayed an extra week in Lenk but they are booked. So we drive 45 minutes further south to Gstaad where I found a nice apartment on the edge of town.
It is usually cheapest to book through the Gstaad tourist office but this apartment wasn’t listed. Instead it was on Booking.com and AirBnb and was cheaper on AirBnb which was a shocker. I usually use AirBnb for research then find somewhere cheaper to book. Like the Baden-Baden apartment. I found it on AirBnb but found her website and booked directly with the owner. And in Lenk the place we stay is run by a local agency.
I am looking forward to staying in Gstaad. Usually we drive there from Lenk for some hikes but now we will there and a five-minute walk from the bus and train station. In Lenk we stay a mile out of town so Gstaad will be a nice change being in town.
European travel - always fun!
