Heathrow info…

We arrive from Newark the evening before our ship sails from Southampton the following evening and we’re looking to see what we could do that evening? We are staying at the Sofitel at Heathrow arriving at 8PM is there a local pub we could Uber to or a restaurant to catch a bit of British flavor? We return for two days after the cruise but as I’m sure we will be wide awake, any suggestions? Thanks!

Hi Doug! We've stayed at that Sofitel many times. I don't know about close by towns but you are not far from Windsor. Google Maps says it is only a 13 minute drive. There is lots to see and do, and lots of restaurants, there.

Windsor Castle is right in the town center. Henry VIII is buried in St George's Chapel (part of Windsor Castle area) in case you are a Henry VIII fan like me. The Long Park in front of Windsor Castle is nice for a walk. The River Thames goes through the town center and is nice to walk along.

Anyway, that is an option if you don't come up with something closer.

Windsor would be my recommendation as well, which might even include a short walk over the bridge towards Eton, with its children still dressed in historic garb. Windsor is pleasant and relaxed, yet also very close to the airport.
