NO WiFi - Is That A Deal-Breaker?

So I found an adorable thatched-roof cottage IN a cute village, at a price I can (almost) afford. But they don't have WiFi. I'm not sure how important that is to me. On this last vacation we spent 3 weeks in the same apt in Umbria, so there were afternoons and evenings when we were just 'at home', reading, napping or catching up on the local news or email via internet. Next summer we probably won't have as much down time, but I'm still not sure..... The thought of taking my netbook to the pub isn't a big deal, it's just the convenience of having it at home! What do you think? BTW, here's the link to the cottage: http://www.vrbo.com/1153355ha#

The cottage is lovely. This is an opportunity to stay in an historic cottage. Old but with the mod cons as they say there. If you don't need internet for work, then I don't think no wifi is a deal breaker.

Barb, I think only you and Art can decide if WIFI is a "must have," especially if the cottage is right for you in every other way.

On our long trip to Europe 10 years ago we didn't have WIFI anywhere. We connected to the internet through a phone line in the house where we lived in Provence for six months, but we didn't have any internet access at all in 19 other rentals! And we didn't have a cell phone either, for 14 months. We did travel with a laptop to do off-line computer work, and we visited internet cafes or public libraries once or twice a week. We managed perfectly fine.

Today I really can't be without WIFI for more than about two days... but I'm running a business and have to be in touch.

I'm sorry if I raised a red flag for you about the cottage. A netbook would be easy to carry with you when you head down to the local every evening for a pint!
