Rome is calling my name…

Dear Italy experts:

Rome has been calling me. Alors, next Xmas-New Year…

I need your recommendations for a rental.
We want to
1. stay near Palazzo Farnese, or around via della Pace, Governo Vecchio, Coronari, and the Ghetto…
2. have a 1-bedroom apartment with a
- good kitchen,
- good view. Last time our view WAS the Piazza and Palazzo Farnese. If so, great. But actually any view in the Centro Storico is a winner, except the view of a wall…

We can handle a 3 to 4-storey walkup.

Thank you all so much for helping me out. -- Sad, I realize I really don't want to post this on Slowtrav.

Thanks. I had to log in for the 3rd or 4th time in order to reply here. Sigh. Yes I love Trastever and I love your taste. Will look into it.

Amy beat me to it! We've stayed in Sari's apartment for a total of 5 or 6 weeks now -- I think we first stayed there in 2005 right after Amy did, and we would not consider staying anywhere else in Rome.

Ciao Parigi!

The apartment I have now rented four times in Roma ~ and will be renting again for six weeks this May/June ~ fits some of your criteria. It is on via dei Chiavari behind Sant' Andrea della Valle. It is actually a part of the church compound (the old monastery) and faces the internal courtyard and church buildings. There is a terrace on the first level - off of the front room - and a balcony that runs along the bedroom/bath upstairs, which also faces into the interior of the church compound. You are not facing the street.

The real gem, is the "secret" key to the rooftop which is undeveloped but has spectacular views over Roma. It is to my mind ~ for it's central location and quality ~ perfect!....except the kitchen is very small. It is surprisingly well equipped, but in miniature. I do believe you are, like myself, petite? A large person would be challenged in the tiny space.... It is rented through Airbnb Campo dei Fiori Terrace Apartment The owner, Nadia, is attentive and wonderful to deal with.

Wow - that kitchen IS tiny - but that rooftop terrace might make up for it!!!!

Yes, even the owner, Nadia, has said it really is not a kitchen, yet I've prepared dozens of meals in it. She bought the apartment many years ago and lived there until it became too small for her husband and baby daughter. What really saves the situation is the location of the apartment ~ oh so close to several really wonderful restaurants. All within easy walking distance....

Sun rises from west ! I didn't have to re-login, hallelujah.
Thank you for thinking of me. In fact I have bookmarked this place, which appeals to me.
The kitchen is not big, but it is not unworkably small. I'll look into it.

Hi Parigi,
We stayed in Sari's apartment a year ago December just before Christmas. My take differs from most. We loved the area. But we found the apartment dark and rather claustrophobic. There is no view. Of course, the little square is lovely but in the evening most of it is taken up by folks at the bar. While the bedroom is quiet, we smelled smoke from the downstairs bar. I don't recall the kitchen as fantastic but better than most rentals.

Welcome to this site. Regarding SlowTrav. C'est la vie. Pauline has created a great site here and I guess that's what happens when a big indifferent corporation takes over the reins. It eventually goes downhill. Or maybe everything has a lifespan even on the internet.

We also recommend Sari's apartment in Trastevere, in which we stayed for two weeks last November. Great kitchen, with 5-burner stove and granite peninsula. We spent most of our time in the kitchen/entry area, rarely used the living room. In late fall it was cool, so we rarely had windows open. The bar is two stories below the kitchen window. The quiet bedroom is on the other side of the building, overlooking the large roof of a one-story building on a quiet lane. My only caveat is that the shower is small, and like most apartments we've rented in Italy the "on demand" water heater didn't produce enough hot water, requiring one to get wet, turn off the water, lather, then turn it back on to rinse.

We never had that problem with the shower, although it is small, and since we have stayed in the spring or fall, we've never been bothered by the smoke.

can you please tell me on which web site to book SARI'S APARTMENT.I WILL NEED FOR MY STAY IN 11/2018 IN ROME.Thanks for your input on the forum

Sari converted the apartment into a long-term rental a year or so ago, so it's no longer available as a vacation rental. Too bad, it was a wonderful place to stay!

I also stayed in Saris apt. We liked it but found it very dark and claustrophobic. On weekends we smelled smoke wafting up from the bar below. The bar is great but gets very busy. Great neighborhood. She lists on all the regular sites. She used to advertise on ST. I think she's on VRBO and probably Airbnb.
We decided we wouldn't rent from her again because of issues I described
