Suggestions for accommodation in Lucca?

I've got a couple of days to spare which I'm thinking of spending in or around Lucca before travelling to Camogli.

Any suggestions for staying in Lucca?

An alternative would be an agritursimo near Lucca or a complete about face and ditch Lucca in favour of a nice agritursimo closer to Camogli.

Thank you for the recommendation unfortunately when the link didn't work on my phone I Googled Booking.com, TripAdvisor and Airbnb and found it. But all three appeared to say it wasn't available or to contact the business. Looks like it might be booked out 13-15 September.

I assume you don’t have a car and are traveling by train? Lucca is wonderful if you haven’t been before . We live 35 min away in the Appenine Mts . I can ask locals which they’d recommend.

Thanks. I have booked something 'within the walls' but I can cancel with no penalty.

If you stay within the walls you do not need a car at all !!! It’s just nice to walk the city or the wall and just sit back in the evening for a drink .
I like Carbone as a bit of an upscale newcomer restaurant ! Everyone goes to La Buca di Sant’Antonio which I did with my parents eons ago and it’s good but overpriced for food I grew up on.
There’s quite a few restaurants that are good just stay away from the tourist menu places.
If you plan to see the area like Montecarlo wineries outside the walls a car is needed.
I happen to like the Grand Universe Lucca Hotel off Piazza Napoleone . More possibilities are:
Hotel Alla Corte degli Angeli
Hotel illaria
Palazzo Rocchi - Residenza D'Epoca
Gelato places:
Paniko is the best!!

Great thanks for this advice. You've ticked a few boxes! For me travelling is about vistas and history but also about food, wine and getting to know a bit more about the culture. I'm trying to speak a bit better Italian (I'm a bit "me Tarzan you Jane" at the moment) but it would be nice to have a brief conversation about not much at all (or wine ) , just for fun.
