Can anyone tell me if people on the island of Ustica speak mostly Italian or Sicillian or if they have a preference? We'd like to be respectful tourists
Sicilian is a dialect, and, as such, people who speak it also speak Italian and nobody is expected to speak to anyone in their own dialect...
I understand your desire of being respectful, but you can do so regardless of the language.
This said, people in Ustica mostly speak Sicilian in their everyday life.
