Basilicata and Umbria, April - May 2017

Photos from the meal we had with Rebecca and Linda and Wes Yoder at Il Poggio dei Pettirossi (near Bevagna). They raise goats and produce goat cheese. Everything was local and organic. Rebecca took these photos on her phone.

We started with a tomato mush, an assortment of goat cheeses and toasted bread. It was like a deconstructed bruschetta. The tomato mush has a name and was delicious. I loved all the goat cheese except for the brie which was too strong for me.

Primi was homemade pasta with a cheese inside and a lovely basil-based sauce. Steve had his without cheese.

Secondi for the three vegetarians was an interesting thing related to a Sardinian flat bread with cheese inside served with sauteed greens. The non-veggies had rabbit.

No room for dessert, so we all had coffee.

We did not buy much on this trip, but we did get some food items. Organic Italian coffee (at the airport); truffle sauces, truffles, chocolate with truffle (yes - very odd!), and dried porcini from Scheggio; olives, a soup mix and taralli from the Coop in Spoleto; pocket coffee from the shop in Trivigno (and some Valerie bought for us in case there were none left - they stop selling them in the summer); misc Perugina chocolate from the AutoGrill.

Close up of the truffle sauces. We had the Porcini and Truffle tonight - very good!
