Love poppies, of any variety! And I love peonies. I'm always in Italy in May, when the peonies, which are prolific where I stay, are blooming. Sadly I settled for a couple of bunches from Trader Joe's last week and was delighted when they fully bloomed.

There were a couple of deep red peony plants in the garden when we moved in. They were wonderful but it was sad the flowers didn't last very long. They would just come into bloom and it always seemed to rain and all the petals fell off.

The verges are covered with grasses at the moment. Looking at all the stamens hanging out of these ryegrass flowers, it is hardly surprising my hay fever is so bad...

Last November, no filters, Bagnoregio with sky......

Love the pics. By the way, I was born and raised in Riverside, CA. One question about Bagnoregio. Have they added a new type of walkway to the bridge? We've been there several times, and that brown area was not there?

I'm not really familiar with Riverside; I'm close to the beach. California has such a variety of geography, climate, etc., it's like Italy in that sense which I find delightful. Variety is great!

No, they've not added anything to the walkway. What is different is that now they collect an entrance fee at the bottom before letting anyone walk up. It started out at 1 euro and gradually edged up to 5, last time I took a group. It was so disheartening to me to see the crowds mushrooming over the past few years. Clearly the commune needed the revenue to do some restoration work on the erosion but I suspect that after things open up some the fees will change. When I first started going there, in 1998 I would only see 3 or 4 people up top for an entire afternoon. Now, with more restaurants there are many hundreds and it's not a very big space as you know. Oh well, it will be most interesting to see what happens going forward.

We also started going many many years ago. Hardly anyone there. Never saw a Bus in sight. Now, it's nuts.

Riverside is straight up Hwy 91, Newport Beach, keep going past Anaheim, better known as Disneyland. Past Corona, and next will be Riverside.

Bird's foot trefoil spotted on today's walk. It is also known as 'eggs and bacon' as its yellow flowers turn red as they die. Grandson has christened it 'English breakfast'...
