Change of plans? (coronavirus)

We are suppose to leave on our Slow Europe Contest Prize trip to L’Aiolina in 6 weeks. We are remaining very optimistic, but realistic that it may not happen. I would be very bummed out if that were the case. We are doing a week in Rome, followed by a week at L’Aiolina and we are sooooooooooo looking forward to this trip.

Argh!!! I was planning a trip to L'Aiolina this spring too! I haven't booked anything.

This is just all so dreadful!

The only thing positive about having to cancel our spring/summer trip due to injury in January is that I don't have to worry about possible changes due to the coronavirus.
Sorry to hear about the injury. That is frustrating, but at least you don't have to wait to see if you can do the trip or have to cancel.

Do you remember Alice Twain from ST? She wrote those great Trains in Italy pages. She now lives in northern Italy and has published a book on knitting. Here is her latest design (on Instagram) a face mask for coronavirus.

As far as I know, masks do not save you from viruses. You need a respirator for good protection. A good respirator costs tons of $.

Since our trip isn't until the end of May, we have plenty of time to wait and see what happens. We do have travel insurance provided through our Chase Sapphire credit card. Out of curiosity, I checked to see what it did/did not cover and found this under exclusions:

Your disinclination to travel due to an epidemic or pandemic

So, I would recommend that everyone thoroughly check out the exclusions section of any insurance that you already have or are thinking about purchasing. The section on travel advisories only covers those issued for terrorist activity, not health warnings. It appears if all this does escalate, we most likely will not be able to claim any reimbursement on this plan.
Suzanne, we are also traveling to Italy in May, and hoping for the best.

Ferrari has canceled all owner factory tours (not sure about public tours) and the Geneva Auto Show has been cancelled.

And with this post I was awarded the "100+ Posts" Trophy! :D

We are still being optimistic, albeit it is getting harder. We are having dinner with friends tonight who's son lives and works in Rome. I will be interested what he is reporting to Mom and Dad.

That would have been hilarious if we would have unknowingly ended up at l'Aiolina at the same time.

All of this is the very reason that everyone should purchase really good travel insurance.
From what
I'm reading in the press, insurance companies appear to be fairly sympathetic to the people cancelling trips at present.

I just checked our travel insurance. It does cover quarantine--hope that isn't something we need! But, good to know,

well we booked our trip to Paris for one week at royal Regency resorts April 19 2020 and one week South France Le Club Mougins
our flights are booked few months ago with Air Transit from Toronto
my question should we cancelled we will lost our points
but we will get our money on our flight ....
thanks

I'm considering canceling our hotel reservation for three nights in Positano. Expensive hotel, and we have prepaid one night. I just looked at the contract, and it says we will not be charged if we cancel outside 59 days. The contract also says, we will be charged for the entire stay once we get inside the 59 days. We are talking about $2,100 that we lose, so I'm considering not taking the chance and canceling. What a mess. No worries for our accommodation in Tuscany, as we know the owner very well, and he knows we will return as soon as everything is clear. I think I will write to the hotel and see what they say under these circumstances.
